Be Still and Know

Scripture: "Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth." — Psalm 46:10 (KJV)

From Madame Guyon

"You must be like the bee that enters the flower to draw out its honey, not merely tasting the surface. Go to the depths of your spirit, and there you will find God." — Experiencing the Depths of Jesus Christ, Chapter 6

Reflection

In our age of constant notifications and endless scrolling, the command to "be still" feels almost impossible. Yet this is precisely what the soul most desperately needs—not more information, but deeper presence.

Madame Guyon understood this well. She taught that prayer is not about mastering complex techniques or accumulating spiritual knowledge. Rather, it is the simple turning of the heart inward, toward the One who already dwells within. Like a bee that does not rush from flower to flower but lingers to draw out the deep sweetness, we are called to slow down and let God meet us in the quiet.

The "stripping" she often wrote about is not punishment—it is the gentle removal of everything that distracts us from the Essential. When we feel dry, when God seems hidden, this is often His invitation to stop striving and simply be with Him.

Today, resist the urge to fill every silence. Let your soul turn inward. There, in the depths, Christ waits.

Prayer

Lord, I lay down my self-effort at Your feet—this is not passive resignation, but the active faith of a swimmer who stops fighting the current and learns to be carried. Teach me to be still. Strip away my distractions, my endless doing, my anxious thoughts. Let me find You in the depths of my spirit, where You have always been. Amen.
